Priapism is a condition characterized by a prolonged erection lasting for hours without stimulation or persisting after stimulation ends.
It is classified into three types: ischemic (low-flow), nonischemic (high-flow), and recurrent ischemic (intermittent). The majority of cases are ischemic, which is typically painful. In ischemic priapism, most of the penis becomes rigid, except for the glans. Conversely, nonischemic priapism is usually painless, and the entire penis is only partially firm.
Pripism may occur as a result of ED medications usage.
